Summer Security Tips: Alarm Systems

Having a high performance alarm system installed in your home is great, but it can only make your home safer if it is used. Many homeowners become relaxed in setting the alarm before they leave, and this can be a gift for any potential intruder.

The best way to avoid this is to get into the habit of setting the alarm every time you leave the house, even if it is just a short trip. It may seem silly at first but it will soon become second nature and as a result your home will be significantly safer.

Another way decrease the chance of your alarm not being set is to ensure that your whole family knows how to activate and deactivate the alarm quickly. Some children can be too young to deal with alarms on their own, but check with them first because if they can work an iPod/iPhone/iPad, then the chances are that they can probably work your house alarm.

Lastly, if your alarm does go off you want to make its effect as efficient as possible. The best way of doing this is getting to know your neighbours making sure they know what to do when they hear it. Taking this step could make the difference between a wrongly perceived “false alarm” and a swift police response.
